Used as a long range hunting scope

by Curtis, from PA, United States Written on September 16, 2018
I will start by saying I am a fan of Nightforce and Leupold. Never had I owned nor had I met anyone who had owned a SIG optic prior to the time I purchased this scope in April 2017. I had scheduled a spring bear hunt in Montana, and I needed a scope for my "backup" rifle. I had set up a Christensen Carbon Classic in .300 UltraMag with a Nightforce as my main hunting rifle for the trip, then I had a Cooper 92 Backcountry 7mm mag that I had purchased that I was going to use as a backup, but I needed a scope. I was intrigued by SIG optics, as I met Chris Smith the regional SIG rep and he demonstrated a few of their wares for me at a local shop... I was nervous about having to potentially rely on a product that I didn't know well... the glass is clear, not Nightforce clear, but still very high quality. MOA adjustments were spot on. Fast forward six weeks, I stepped off the plane in Missoula. Shortly after arriving, we went to the range to check rifles for zero, and the ejector froze up in the bolt of my Christensen/Nightforce setup! Herein is why I brought the backup rifle. I had fired the Cooper with the SIG 4x14 out to 600 yards at home, and when I checked zero, it was still right on.
The next night, at dusk, I utilized the illuminated reticle on a low setting and took a 515 yard shot to cleanly harvest a 6'8" chocolate color phase bear. I am a believer in SIG electro-optics.
Pros:
  • Illuminated reticle, clear adjustments, quality glass
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting, target

sigsauer quality...best of the best

by Spurscity, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on March 2, 2017
Good scope for its price. Light, compact and very rugged for a tactical scope. It is lighter compared to my other scopes. Glass is good quality and crystal clear. Parallax goes down to 50yds which is ok for me. I prefer black coating on my scopes but this will do as im liking it more. For the price you cant go wrong with this scope. I paired this with my sig516 AR15 and dang they look good together. Overkill on the scope but thats just me.
Pros:
  • Price & quality
  • Good glass and reticle
  • long range capability
Cons:
  • nothing so far
Best Used for:
  • Target shooting
  • tactical and fun plinking
  • long distance accurate shooting
