Julio's Review of SIG SAUER Whiskey5 2-10x42mm Rifle Scope 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane
The first whiskey 5 2-10x I bought had an illuminator that didn't work. I sent the scope in to SIG for repair. They sent me a new one. Then I discovered how bad the distortion is. For a quality scope, distortion should be imperceivable within 90% of the field of view. An excellent optic will have imperceivable distortion for the entire field of view. The Whiskey 5 2-10x has terrible distortion well within the field of view. I checked a Whiskey 5 2-10x at a SIG store and it had the same distortion. The distortion is part of the design. When I sent the second scope back to SIG for distortion and a stain on the inside of the objective lens, SIG sent it back to me stating that it was within specification. This tells me that the scope was designed to allow for that amount of distortion.
Unless it is a military contract scope, I wouldn't trust SIG optics. SIG will compromise the performance of an optic unless it is one of the highest end models. There is no such thing as value with SIG.
I will end up ordering a replacement for the SIG scope. I'm lucky I bought it on discount which softens the impact of the loss.
