Jason McDermott's Review of SIG SAUER ZULU6 HDX OIS 20x42mm Schmidt-Pechan Prism Binocular

I tried out the Gen1 Zulu6 16x42 and I was incredibly shocked at the progress of binocular technology. Extremely lightweight and the stabilizer was a game changer for me. Then I looked up on Sig Sauer’s website and saw they were about to drop the new Gen2 Hulu6 HDX with better glass and target mode added to the scan mode, almost doubling the stabilization. Not only that but coming out with a 20 times magnification model, I was instantly sold. Yes this is a must upgrade if you have the Gen1. Now that I have them, target mode literally holds the image completely still. You can jump and move around and they are still locked on target. This is perfect for a spotting hole punches on a 100 yard range or using them on a boat. The new glass is crystal clear even fully zoomed out, it’s not dramatically changed from the Gen1 but you can see the difference. The weight is still extremely lightweight. Truly a go everywhere binoculars. These binoculars are the apex of stabilized binoculars period. I’ve tried Canon and others, these are mind blowing and so much better compared to others currently on the market. The 20x magnification is perfect for seeing those tiny details and the field of view is perfect for my uses, seeing things far away in detail while on the move. The moon and stars look amazing especially fully stabilized, like a picture in the lenses. Seriously the new target mode is like having them on a tripod, absolutely zero hand shake even fully zoomed out. There is only one small complaint that has nothing to do with the binoculars, the lens caps provided barely hold on and there is none for the unique shape of the bottom lenses. That being said, I’d be taking them off all the time and leaving them in the case anyways. I walk around with them around my neck and forget they are on. I’m amazed they put so much tech into such a small package, that’s partially due to the roof prism technique and the lightweight materials in the construction. They seem very solid and durable in my hands but I’m not gonna durability test them since they are new and expensive. These need to put on blast on social media. They are so freaking cool!!!
Pros:
  • These are the best of the best in stabilized binoculars
Cons:
  • Lens Caps
  • lens caps are a little loose
Best Used for:
  • Anytime you need to see things far away
