mena's Review of SightMark Photon RT 4.5-9x42S Digital Night Vision Rifle Scope
Was really disappointed when I used it in both day time mode and night time mode. During the day, the screen was so dim that I could barely make out what I'm looking at and the night time mode the picture was really grainy no matter how I tried to adjust the picture. I did buy an after market IR light but the on board IR light was just as good. After looking at online videos, some videos looked nothing like what I saw and some videos looked exactly what I see. At close night time distances (like under 40 yards) the picture looked ok but anything further (50 to 100 yards) the picture was so grainy that it was really hard to make out what you were looking at. Anything over 100 yards the picture was so terrible that everything object just blended together. You sort of see a blob of something but you're not sure if that blob was a bush, a wall, junk, or shed.
The menu options were so small that after a few minutes your eyes were killing you. You do have to stop every now and then to rub your eyes. The pointer that you move to choose your options in the menu is so small it hard to see what you are trying to choose.
I may have to play with this scope a few days and hope I can get it to work better but after messing with this scope for several hours, re-read the manual several times, and looking for tips online, I still can't get a good picture on the scope. I will test it out again tomorrow night with a different wave length IR light to see if the scope performs better.
