Hardware's Review of Sightmark Photon XT 4.6x42S Digital Night Vision Rifle Scope

Unit works very well, no frills or thrills.
Simple menus push button and rotate wheel to select 1 of 3 options.
1. reticle style 2. reticle color 3. zero scope. (press button to switch between up/down or left/right and rotate wheel to adjust)

With a quick detach mount it can be swapped between rifles or a pellet gun, just record the verticle/horizontal offsets you used to zero each rifle. Like -5 vertical and +12 horizontal so you can rezero it when you change rifles.

Unit has a clear picture, not as good as gen3 NV which will cost you $2500.00 plus ( which can't be used during the day) But you still can ID critters out to 100-150yds with external IR illuminator like a t20 IR 850nm and with the built in IR you are good to 75yds on pitch black nights.

You can hang with the big boys at night, let them find the critters with the $10K plus night vision and thermal, and all of you can see and shoot the critters. ( keep in mind night shooting and suppressors kinda go hand in hand) Shooting multiple shots at night without a suppressor will make bright fire balls and smoke that will block your vision using night vision, not a defect with the equipment just have to wait for the smoke to clear. With a suppressor that fireball and smoke is not much of a problem.

This unit will open up night hunting for under $500.

Get 4 to 8 2500mah nimh AA rechargeable batteries and a good charger and running out of juice will not be a problem. Non rechargeable AA batts last 2-4 hrs for me, so the rechargeable is the way to go.
Pros:
  • light weight
  • Low Cost compared to Gen3 NV
  • Durable, high recoil rating
  • Video out to record critters
  • Simple to operate
  • Uses 2 standard AA batts
Cons:
  • None
Would Recommend: Yes
