I ordered this item once and returned because I suspected it was defective. Optics Planet's "Gear Experts" didn't know this bit of info and Sightmark's customer service didn't either which is why I initially returned the designator. After doing more digging, I found what -I- thought was a defect was actually intentional: IR lasers are SUPPOSED to switch off every 9-10 seconds due to the beam being invisible to the unaided eye. With that said, I have mounted the replacement and am quite pleased with how this designator performs.
Pros:
- light weight
- easy to use
- bright
- Good fit
Cons:
- poor documentation
- Weak mounting screws
- No remote switch mount

1st off writen instructions have you placeing the batteries in backward , look at the laser body inside the battery compartment , the POS, + faces out not in , the writen instructions say POS ( + ) faceing in ! I almost thought the laser was broken , couldn't see it with 3 seperate Night Vision devises , or with 20MP CCD cameras all should veiw it fine ! Once I looked inside the battery compartment I seen the instructions were backward ! Otherwise works great for close to med range under 300M, easy to udjust without tools , even with gloves !
Yes I recomend it , it is specific devise, for a specific job,2nd the preasure switch didn't fit my forward grip slot , but that could be because the forward grip was inported ???
Pros:
- Weather resistant, easy to adjust even with gloves
Cons:
- Instructions for battery insertion backward !
Best Used for:
- If you know what this is ? you know what it is for!

Just got this, but so far it looks very good the price. The packaging is nice and the manual is better than most imported products I've seen recently. One thing I am not sure about yet are the Elev/Windage adjustment controls. Instead of removable caps, these are knurled knobs that might be subject to getting accidentally moved. Once sighted in, I may put some camo fabric wrap over them.
As a matter of clarification, the G6 (SM25008) & the IR6 (SM25009) are different models. The G6 is a visible green & IR compatible laser, while the IR6 is IR only and not visible without night vision. As such, the IR6 can only be sighted in with night vision devices.
Another clarification is about the auto shutoff feature of the unit and my manual states:
"Due to FDA regulations on IR lasers the ReadyFire IR6 (SM25009) unit can only operate in time spans of 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, the unit will turn off. The user will have to reactivate the laser. It is recommended the pressure pad be used for SM25009 to provide easier operation."
Cons:
- Adjustment knobs not covered

I have been totally satisfied with this laser sight so far. It can be mounted in various locations on the rifle and mounting is easy. Adjustments are in a good location and are very positive. i can't speak on durability because I have only used it once.
