Rifleman's Review of OpticsPlanet Exclusive Sightron Black/Gray S-TAC 4-20x50 Rifle Scope
My Dad gave me my first single-shot Remington .22 rifle when I was eleven (66 years ago) and I've run the gamut: hunting, rifle and pistol competition (rifle and pistol Silhouette, IPSIC, Steel Challenge) gunsmithing, long range rifle, Quigley, Sporting Clays, instructing across all disciplines.
I tell you that to tell you this: Over the past six and-a-half decades, technology has changed -- no, metamorphosed -- all the games.
There was a time when I did financially well bedding wood-stock rifles. No longer.
There was a time when we called each other's long mountain shots based on guesstimates. No longer.
There was a time when riflescopes weighed almost half as much as the rifle. No longer.
This Sightron riflescope is confirmation of how obsolete (although pleasant to remember) the Good Ol' Days have become.
The most immediate effect of today's technology showed itself when I mounted the riflescope (I tend to be really grumpy about my installations), applied the collimator and I didn't have to make the first adjustment(!).
Yes, the Springfield mount for the M1A was expertly (CNC?) machined; yes, the Weaver rings were also perfectly machined and the riflescope blended with the M1A as if they were made for each other. (Imagine that!)
This is the first riflescope (out of thousands) that I have mated with a rifle which required absolutely no on-the-bench adjustments to Zero.
Yes, the rings and the base played the central role but this riflescope was assembled by people who know what they're about.
Crisp adjustments; silky-smooth magnification adjustment; crystal clarity; readable, understandable, visual instruction pamphlet for the TAC functions; careful, thoughtful packaging intended to protect the product.
Go to the head of the class!
