Surprisingly versatile
Although I have owned and used my Simmons 12 x 50 pro Sport for over three years now, I have thus far only used them for nature watching and sightseeing.
Having an interest in Astronomy, I thought I would give them a try, not really expecting much. I can only say I was very favorably surprised!
Firmly mounted on a tripod, I split the close optical double star Albireo, which no other instrument in this price class has managed to do. The "Wild Duck" cluster, M11, showed itself beautifully, with good contrast and definition. I was also able to spot the 8th magnitude star associated with the Alcor/Mizar pair in the handle of the Big Dipper. Again, I stress that it was necessary to have the instrument firmly mounted.
The moon showed only a bit of color fringing around the edge, and a very faint evidence of a ghost image, not detrimental to the view.
I would not have thought a low price roof prism could be as useful for Astronomy as I now know these to be.
