Most Helpful Positive Review Great scope!
I have several of these scopes on different handguns. I am completely impressed with them too! This scope takes the recoil of a TC Super 14 in 45-70 shooting 350-405gr bullets up to 1600fps, as well as my 500 S&W shooting 440gr bullets at 1700+fps. Pros: compact, accurate, price Cons: none
Most Helpful Negative Review LONG Eye Relief
Solid construction, Good image, AMAZING eye relief. If you have short arms, do not get this scope since the image tends to start tunneling at an eye relief of about 12 inches or so. From about 10 inches out to the full length of my arms, the image is fine. Pros: Long eye relief Cons: Eye relief is ...

The eye relief is HORRIBLE

by ideola, Verified Owner from IL, United States Written on November 17, 2019
I purchased the Simmons Prohunter 2-6x32 handgun scope to mount on my Ruger Mark IV Hunter .22LR pistol. Unfortunately, the eye relief is so long on this scope that it is virtually unusable, especially at higher magnifications. I'm using a pair of Simmons cantalever high ring mounts, and have the scope positioned as far forward as possible. Even in that configuration, and when using a two handed grip with arms fully extended, I have great difficulty position the scope without shadowing or occlusions. For reference, I'm 5'10", so average height / build.

Rapid target acquisition? Forget about it. I'm taking this off of the Ruger Mark IV, and will see if it's salvageable on my Marlin Model 60 rifle.
Pros:
  • Decent glass and clarity
Cons:
  • Eye relief is way too long
  • Magnification dial is too stiff
  • Impossible to get rapid target acquisition

Simmons scope

by J, from GA, United States Written on October 4, 2018
Scope has worked thus far. Has zeroed in and held zero on a 44 mag. It has had about 60 rounds through it and still works fine. Optics seem good. I have read orher reviews with issues for these scopes, but so far am pleased.
Pros:
  • Good value for money
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting

Eye-relief?

by Donald, from IL, United States Written on August 29, 2018
The eye-relief on this scope is a little long for a pistol, which is what I intended it for. Using a laser sight makes this rather evident, too.

If you have a long arm, it's probably okay.

Mounting the scope was easy enough.
Pros:
  • Easy to mount
Cons:
  • eye-relief
Best Used for:
  • rifle

Pro Hunter one tough scope

by Twolf, from CA, United States Written on May 13, 2017
I have Simmons scope on my other rifle a 338 win mag and never Have I been disappointed with them. I reviewed this scope and purchased it for my Ruger super Blackhawk hunter .44 magnum. Mounting it on my SBHH was very easy as well as sighting in at 100 yards. At this range and using all copper bullets I will cover my groups easy with my left hand using cross sticks. Eye relief is great light gathering was average I would practice late in the evenings just like hunting conditions. For the hunt and after chasing and falling and rounding once down the hill the scope still held its zero. I caught up with the big boar and range him at 152 yards from my position and light was fading fast on me. Using a large tree I braced my RSBHH I fired the big boar staggered and took half-dozen steps and fell over dead! You will not go wrong with this scope for not paying for a name, accurate, light gathering and holding up to the falls and rolls of field conditions.

You get what you pay for

by Hungry Hippo, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on October 26, 2016
Bought a cheap scope so I can test my TC Encore .243 Win Pistol. Spherical aberration is terrible on this scope, especially at higher magnification. Only the center is clear, the area near the edges become distorted. Eye relief changes with magnification, so scope needs to be mounted with scope at intended magnification to get correct eye relief.

I would just bite the bullet and buy a better scope.
Pros:
  • Cheap
  • Looks good
  • Maintains aim
Cons:
  • Spherical Aberration
Best Used for:
  • Cheap scope for range use

Difficult to quickly pick up target

by headricecntr, from PA, United States Written on August 6, 2016
I installed this scope on my Ruger 22/45. I had a difficult time quickly acquiring the next target in a competition shoot. If your purpose is bench rest shooting, then this scope would work fine. If you have to move from target to target quickly, it takes a second to reacquire a sight picture.
Best Used for:
  • Benchrest Applications

excellent for the money

by markmc, from TX, United States Written on July 17, 2016
Scope is clear with no edge distortion throughout the entire power range. Eye relief shortens slightly at high power but still very adequate. Easy finger adjustment for windage and elevation. Power ring turns smoothly and easily. Don't know how much recoil it will take but I put mine on a TC contender in .22LR so I don't expect any problems.
Pros:
  • Clear optics.
  • good eye throughtout power range
Cons:
  • None

Not for a 44 mag

by Bouncer, from AR, United States Written on March 26, 2016
Mounted this scope on a Ruger Super RedHawks 44 mag. After firing six rounds scope has visible chip on the inside and will not zero. Guess you get what you pay for, was hoping it would be one of the ones that worked out. This scope is not for 44 mag.
Pros:
  • Looks nice on gun
Cons:
  • Not for a 44 mag
  • chip on inside
  • will not adjust for zero
Best Used for:
  • Maybe good for smaller caliber

Simmons Prohunter 2-6x32 Handgun Scope

by outdoorgrilln, Verified Owner from RI, United States Written on July 13, 2015
I mounted the Simmons Prohunter on my Ruger Super Redhawk and had it dialed in at 50 yards within 8 rounds, using a benched pistol perch. The scope has a nice clear picture but difficult to center it without hunting for the best head position at high magnification as the other buyers mentioned. 4X for target shooting is fine.
For the price, it's a good buy.
