I've been hiking/backpacking for 39 years. Anyone that's done very much hiking knows that blisters can ruin, what should be, a very pleasant experience. So, I'm writing this review to try to help anyone that hasn't discovered the benefits of merino wool. Obviously, I've already mentioned blisters and yes merino wool solved that problem for me. Another benefit of merino wool, it almost eradicates all foot odor. I also wear lightweight merino wool socks, for work, during summertime in the southeastern United States. The key word being, "lightweight". No sock has ever served me better than Smartwool. No piece of gear has ever been as valuable as Smartwool socks. Spend extra $$ on socks. The value well outweighs the cost.
