Big TRex's Review of Smith & Wesson 8inch Special Ops M-9 Bayonet

This isn't cheap... but if you are looking for a "realistic" M9 bayonet and aren't wanting to risk ordering an actual official used military version without knowing the exact condition of the one you would get... this is a good alternative. The sheath operation is smooth and offers great retention! Look great on a rifle!

Sharp out of the box? No, but you wouldn't want a bayonet to be "kitchen knife sharp" because the fine edge would roll over and become incredibly dull the first time you hit something with it. So, I touched it up a tad, but I leave it at more of a "defensive level of sharpness" which is more appropriate for a bayonet. The "saw-back" is wicked sharp however, so be careful when handling it (LOL, you might want to carry a couple of Band-Aids in the storage pouch it comes with).

Now for the bad... I had to VERY lightly Dremmel the attachment opening ever so little. It didn't fit the Smith & Wesson Sport Carbine (with a 3rd party) lug extension and it didn't want to fit my Bear Creek Arsenal 20" M16 style upper lug either. I didn't have to take much off at all. Just a tiny amount of material removed (couldn't really see the difference), touched up with a "Sharpie"... and it looks and works great on both guns now.

Also, the hand guard (on mine) had some movement that irritated me. I was able to get it solid again by stretching a tiny RUBBER hair tie over the space, and working it in with a precision screwdriver to fill the space. I found the extra small rubber ties at Walmart on clearance.
Pros:
  • Look great on gun!
Cons:
  • Mine needed some work.
Best Used for:
  • Guns with bayonet lugs.
