Most Helpful Positive Review Well Made Commercial M9
This is an accurate reproduction of the US Army M9 bayonet made by Buck and Phobis. It fits perfectly on a 20" AR15/M16A2 upper and locks tightly on the bayonet lug. The blade is cut correctly to use the wire cutter on the sheath. Sheath has an internal spring to hold the blade tight when inserted. Sheath also has a coarse sharpening stone molded into the sheath. Blade was well sharpened when I received it, but I used my Spyderco Sharpmaker to give it a razor sharp edge. I would say the knife and sheath are just as good as the M9 I carried during my military career. A solid, heavy fighti...

Overall, good buy!

This isn't cheap... but if you are looking for a "realistic" M9 bayonet and aren't wanting to risk ordering an actual official used military version without knowing the exact condition of the one you would get... this is a good alternative. The sheath operation is smooth and offers great retention! Look great on a rifle!

Sharp out of the box? No, but you wouldn't want a bayonet to be "kitchen knife sharp" because the fine edge would roll over and become incredibly dull the first time you hit something with it. So, I touched it up a tad, but I leave it at more of a "defensive level of sharpness" which is more appropriate for a bayonet. The "saw-back" is wicked sharp however, so be careful when handling it (LOL, you might want to carry a couple of Band-Aids in the storage pouch it comes with).

Now for the bad... I had to VERY lightly Dremmel the attachment opening ever so little. It didn't fit the Smith & Wesson Sport Carbine (with a 3rd party) lug extension and it didn't want to fit my Bear Creek Arsenal 20" M16 style upper lug either. I didn't have to take much off at all. Just a tiny amount of material removed (couldn't really see the difference), touched up with a "Sharpie"... and it looks and works great on both guns now.

Also, the hand guard (on mine) had some movement that irritated me. I was able to get it solid again by stretching a tiny RUBBER hair tie over the space, and working it in with a precision screwdriver to fill the space. I found the extra small rubber t...

M9 Clone by Smith and Wesson

by REX, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on May 5, 2024
I was kind of hesitant to order this, as I know that S&W often contracts these kind of offerings to 3rd party manufactures. When people think of S&W they think of there amazing custom shop revolvers or AR15's. With that said, I am very happy with this example of an M9 bayonet. It is "second kind of cool for me", It seems to be of high quality and pretty close to my Ontario Knife Company Original M9, with the exception of the serration on the blade, although I have to say the serration on the Smith and Wesson M9 fits it well. The pictures of the serration does not do it any favors NO justice, It actually fits it very well. The reason I write review is because of how well Optics Planet treats me. They have great prices and I always get my package on time if not early. I would recommend this Bayonet to anyone not wanting to pay outrageous prices for a Ontario or Buck version of the M9. Bayonets are out dated as far as most to any practical use, but they are cool and can finish that 1980's to 1990' original or clone Colt rifle. I would recommend this to a Friend.

Exactly as you would expect.

by Adam, from CT, United States Written on July 12, 2021
This is an M9 bayonet as built by Smith and Wesson for regular people. Frankly it seems to be of a better quality than what you are likely to see floating around the arms room. Attribute this observation to whatever you like. The blade comes from the factory a little dull but its so big and the handle is so secure that sharpening it was a breeze. It comes with its own integrated whetstone if you feel so inclined but frankly sharpeners are so cheap and prolific that you can leave that alone for later use. All in all, an interesting and high-quality product. I hope you will forgive me for not knowing if its any good in hand-to-hand. If I find out I will write a follow-up as soon as I get out of jail.
Pros:
  • Mechanics function perfectly
  • High quality handle and case
Cons:
  • Arrived Slightly Dull
Best Used for:
  • Round three with Ze Germans
  • Keeping Zulus at bay
  • Charging headlong into the enemy
