Story Time Dave's Review of Sniper Butt Stock Rifle Cleaning Kit for M1 Garand
M1 Garand cleaning kit, if you ever owned or ran an M1 Garand in the field or in combat a good cleaning kit is a must. I’ve luckily never had a problem with any of the guns that I’ve trusted my life to in combat, but in shooting competitions and just out hiking hunting and shooting I’ve had spent cases get stuck in the chamber. Luckily enough I had an original style cleaning kit in the stock/ But plate with a good solid cleaning rod and a ratcheting chamber cleaning brush to knock out the stuck case and clean the debris out of the chamber that made the case stick in the first place. M1 Garand’s, M14/M1A’s, and BM59/62 type guns are really fairly dependable, but we all cut corners cleaning our guns sometimes and cheap out on our ammo and that how stuck cases happen. And the only really good safe way to clear, clean and get a gun back up and running out in the field or competition is with a stock military type cleaning kit with a Garand or M1A, and if you have one with you on/in your gun you can get back up and running all that much faster. If you have ever seen a picture of four American Indians with a caption of “Homeland Security, Fighting Terrorism Since 1492” that is Geronimo on the fare right with an 1873 Springfield Trapdoor with a long wooden dowl rod to knock out the stuck Coper 45-70 cases out of his gun. I believe that picture was taken around 1884? So even way back then it was a good idea to keep a rod with you to get out stuck cases. The issues that I’ve had with stuck cases, in the mid 1970’s I had several spent cases get stuck in the chamber of my 1903A3 in a thousand yard competition due to the again copper cased cheep surplus ammo that I was shooting from a hill top at the West End Gun Club, far away from my truck. The second was in the late 1980’s with my M1 Garand Tanker due to that I left some oil in the barrel and chamber. Three shots and she was locked up with the round almost wilded in the chamber, again at a thousand yard compilation a top a hill at the West End Gun Club. About 5 years ago my son in law did the same thing to his Springfield Armory M1A Scout Model. And now about a month ago I stuck a spent case in the chamber of my Ruger SR762/ AR10. So it can happen, I’ve also had this problem with an AR15 / M4 a few times after literally thousands of rounds in a compilation out in the middle of nowhere in the desert. Thanks again for putting up with my stories, be safe , protect the second amendment and have fun.
