Angus Campbell's Review of SOG Aura Camping Knife w/ 10.95" OAL

The blade is out of proportion with the handle and finger guard. This is a poorly designed knife.
The small velcro tab detent on the sheath is dangerously hopeless, it does not keep the knife secure and it readily slips out. The blade extend below the finger guard and you need to be particularly careful taking it out, with the hopeless detent the blade only needs to be riding a little high in the sheath for this to be dangerous.
I have medium size hands, the finger guard is too small for my hand and the handle also is too small. The only comfortable hand position is well back on the handle. The handle may work ok if you have small hands, my 14 year old daughter found it comfortable to hold but the blade is far too wide for any practical use in her small hands.
Pros:
  • The hollow grind is pretty
Cons:
  • Huge box for shipping
  • Hopeless, dangerous detent on sheath
Best Used for:
  • Sharpening practice for beginners
