Jake's Review of AXIL Ghost Stryke II Digital Earplugs

Have had a pair of ghost stryke II plugs for almost 1yr now. Have not noticed any wind noise transmitted in low-mid wind environments. While talking and shooting The shot noise is reduced in the background but the conversation and noise in the immediate direction is not reduced. I don't seem to use any of the intermediate settings usually an all or nothing, (off or max amplification)
The amplification does work well but it is not a directional microphone, there is no super human hearing, however you can hear someone normally with an industrial vacuum running between the two of you. the noise of the vacuum is still noticeable but is greatly reduced so you can still hear someone speaking. Outdoors with little to no ambiant noise every step sounds like a much greater disturbance then it is.

The battery life leaves something to be desired as for form and size factor a #10 hearing aid battery is used. once installed the battery lasts for about 12hrs however there is no off, so the timer starts going right from when a fresh set is installed. This means new batteries every day.. where as muff ear pro with traditional batteries (AAA/AA) left in the off position may last several outings over a few weeks if not longer.

The seal can at times be a bit tight and feel like there is pressure behind the plug. That being said they are fairly comfortable for a few hours but the occasional urge to re-seat them is not uncommon (for me.)
If you do well with in the earbuds these may be fantastic for you as they are barely noticeable and allow for a nice tight cheek weld where muffs may get in the way. Also great if you are in loud environments frequently like live music or industrial noise. I personal enjoy that they are so discrete.
Pros:
  • discrete size
  • functional hearing protection
Cons:
  • No off switch
  • Battery type
Best Used for:
  • shooting
  • Industrial chores
  • noisy environments
