This is a horrible item. I purchased the hex wasp with my Hellcat pro. It worked for a week. The battery is supposed to last for 2 years. I sent it back over a month ago. I called yesterday they said the the shipment arrived and they would me shipping it out. Called today they don’t have them in stock. And the guy who answered the phone was rude. I will NEVER purchase from them again! Horrible product

First one came off the weapon (Hellcat) after 2 magazines, flew off, hit the concrete and broke. Had wrong screws in it and SA said optics are installed by retailer when buying packaged system with optic. To SA’s credit they replaced no questions asked. Waited weeks, received new one with proper screws. Re-installed and been through not 1 but 2 batteries in a matter of months. I won’t bother to send back based on all the complaints of battery life.

I love the hellcat but the optic is junk. I can only get a month or two max with good quality batteries. Spend the extra and buy good quality Ruger products. This is just text because it says I need to type more...

That's the second wasp red dot springfield sent to me,they just don't work, don't waste your money. The battery don't last more than a month. If you wanna buy the Hellcat, just buy the one without the red dot sight.

The Hex Wasp was designed specifically for the Springfield and the Hellcat platform and comes standard on the RDP version. The RDP was not available locally so I purchased the OSP version and waited patiently until the Wasp was available through Optics Planet, with whom I've done business in the past. Fit and finish are outstanding, dot acquisition is easy, and dot brightness is more than adequate for dark rooms or sunny days. I purchased a Warcat IWB w/MRDS holster which also has a cover for the optic and with the claw attachment, this is truly a very concealable EDC tool.
I had no issues with the optic coming loose as seen by some reviewers but, battery life put the nail in the coffin for this optic on my EDC. Purported is 65,000 hours or about 2 years but my experience puts battery lifetime at an average 31 days! Four batteries in five months and the Wasp is back in the box and awaiting an RMA. Each battery replacement requires removal of the optic which means a trip to the range and enough rounds to regain zero. Range time and practice are a monthly task anyway but as an EDC, if I cannot rely on the optic to function, it has no place on my belt. Sorry Springfield.
Pros:
- Fit and finish on the Hellcat
- Dot acquisition

Overall, I like the sight and believe it will improve target acquisition times, but I'm on my third battery in about 3 months
Advertised life is 2 years... Batteries are not expensive, but it is potentially a reliability issue when you need it too work. I will call SA about the issue..

Battery life is between 3-5 weeks if you carry daily. Also, way too bright unless you only shoot in full sunlight. I can only discern a change in brightness in near total darkness and still unusable in dim light. Have changed battery five times in less than six months. Went back to Shield RMSc. Too unreliable for a carry pistol.
Cons:
- Battery and brightness sensor.
Best Used for:
- Occasional target shooting only.

I bought the Wasp because I could install it on my Hellcat myself. The Wasp made it easy to qualify even at 25 yards, but It stopped working after two months. Springfield replaced it under warranty. The second one stopped after two months. Springfield replaced again under warranty. Thank Goodness for the co-witness groove, at least that was reliable. A friend bough a Romeo for his Hellcat at the same time I bought mine. He has had no problems. I went with the Wasp because it was easy to install. The Romeo required grinding down screws. Wish I would have went with the Romeo.

First battery lasted about a month. Put new battery in and put hellcat in pouch which comes with it and zippered up. I put it in drawer in bedroom. 4 weeks later battery dead. Hex wasp is a bunch of junk. DON’T BUY

I installed the Wasp on my Hellcat and was very happy with the optic as I improved my target accuracy. That said, I have replaced the battery three times within three months. Not SA’s battery life claim of about two years. I emailed SA and did not get a response within three days so I called. The support associate emailed me a set of return instructions and FedEx sent me a mailing label. I was instructed to return the Wasp for replacement so I sent it out today. ‘Repairs will take 2-4 weeks’. I’m looking forward to reinstalling the Wasp and not having this problem in the future. SA did not admit to having a battery life issue or explain why the Wasp failed.
