The gun safe works great with 3 options for opening the safe, a key, a code or by fingerprints. The weight of the unit is an issue if you are going to be placing it in a drawer. I would recommend this product.

After spending a very frustrating evening (HOURS) trying to get the safe to recognize my fingerprint, I came to the conclusion that if I needed to get into this safe in a hurry, I'd better have the key! If I can't just put my finger on the fingerprint capture plate in a calm atmosphere and get it to be recognized, it is HIGHLY unlikely I will be able to put my finger on the capture plate in the EXACT spot this nit-picky optic reader demands IF I am panicked and really NEED to get the safe open. This optic fingerprint reader should be able to recognize my print no matter where on the capture plate I touch - and should be able to do it QUICKLY. Otherwise, it is a TOTAL waste of time and could prevent someone from being able to access the contents of the safe QUICKLY in an emergency. I could have gotten a different model safe had I not thought that a fingerprint reader would grant quicker access than hunting for a key or trying to enter a code. Boy was I wrong! Opticsplanet.com needs to work with their vendors to offer a more RELIABLE product.
