Most Helpful Positive Review WOW - Day time images
Cannot believe how awesome this camera is for the price. Had moderate expectations knowing the camera is a No GlOW, but the night time picture quality is much better than expected. ALso - The day time pictures are absolutely phenominal - better than anything I have ever owned, or seen for that mat...

Most Helpful Negative Review For $50 more than the 2 Browning Trail Cameras I have, I expected a better camera, but No.
The latches are a pain to open and close…while you operate one, the other fall back into the way…it becomes a tedious process especially if you are not setting this up in a manicured environment. The worst part was that on one of the first videos we had, a fox stepped into view just enough to trigg...

so awesome I bought 2

by sangre de cristo, from CO, United States Written on January 31, 2017
These cameras are incredible. This is my 3rd stealth cam. I started with a G30 but when I bought the G42 i loved it so much i purchased another. It's super easy to customize the different modes (length of recording, picture resolution, number of pictures taken per event etc). The video and accompanying audio is incredible. With the external battery pack (optional) the only reason i ever check the camera is to download the 32G card.

Recommended accessories:
12V battery box STC-12VBB
the reader/viewer STC-CRV43
Pros:
  • too many to list
Cons:
  • non
Best Used for:
  • surveilance

File size...too big

by hipapa, from yamanashi, Japan Written on March 22, 2016
I used this cam (set 3min with audio), one file size became almost 700mb... pretty big
picture quality: good
video quality: good
IR strength: enough
size is good for seting, not too small.
if I use this cam, it's better to use 32gb SD.

I was expecting a much better camera

by eddie, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on December 23, 2015
After reading the reviews on this camera. I choose to get this camera over the others same price range. Day time pictures are awesome. The night's not so good. 1. All my night pictures has a half moon cloud like on every photo's at the bottom. 2. 10MP? mine only goes to 8MP. 3. I have so many pictures deer walk passed by only got there back ends of there bodies slow shutter speed? 4. I have pictures of bucks right up to the camera looking right at it. When i tested the camera before i took it out in the woods. I did not see any light or hear the shutter or any type of noise to get the deer attention. 5. I had camera over looking a buck scrape 10 feet away over looking the scrape. I got his picture's but they all look further away like 30 yards. All my pictures i get are not up close and personnel. They all look further away.

Camera cannot hold the SD card in place

by JSM, from VA, United States Written on October 26, 2015
When it works it works well, but dependability is a serious issue. The SanDisk SD card is very difficult to lock into the unit requiring multiple tries and sometimes failing to do so entirely. Perhaps I have not developed the correct touch, but I feel that the unit has a design flaw in this area if excessive fiddling is required to perform what should be a simple pressure and catch movement.

G42 Stealth Cam

by chewy, from CA, United States Written on August 13, 2015
Great cam in a little size! Size makes it easier to hide from peoples prying eyes. Using this cam mainly to take pictures of the gate onto private property though it does get deer/bear pictures as well as they walk by. Crisp, clear pictures makes viewing a snap. Easy to set-up whether using the pre-set or doing a custom program. Might have more features than I need but for the price cannot be beat. Cannot say how the battery life is as compared to other Stealth Cams I own ( they use 8 "c" batteries) but if it is like them the life will be great as the battery symbol had not changed the last time I changed chips. I will be buying another one or two of these in the future to supplement the other older models that I have for catching the different wildlife on the property.
Pros:
  • Size, Weight, Fit-n-Finish
Cons:
  • None

This trail cam has many easy to operate functions, from factory pre set options to custom options programmed by operator. Both still photos and audio/video. Long battery life and easy to set up. The metal "bear box" or security box is well built and and fits the camera great.

  • Easy to use, built well

Good camera

by bowhtr1, from LA, United States Written on March 3, 2015
The only downside to this cam is the amount of memory it uses. You will need a big SD card if you plan on leaving it out very long. This one take great pictures day and night. Video is pretty good also.

Great camera!

by CopperHead75, from MS, United States Written on February 14, 2015
I ordered this game cam after doing a lot of research. I had a Primos Truth Cam 35 that wouldn't turn on out of the box. I finally got it halfway working and it lasted a month and died right as the rut was beginning. I boxed it back up and took it back for a refund. I did a lot of reading and saw a lot of positive reviews for the Stealth Cam G42NG so I went ahead and ordered it.
It takes much better night pictures and has great range. Daytime pics are awesome. Video is very good as well. I have not tried any of the custom settings. I have been using the presets. I will experiment with the custom settings after hunting season is over. Battery life seems okay so far. I put standard alkaline AA batteries in it and have gotten approx. 1200 pictures and 43 videos and the battery life is at 50%.
I have noticed that the black LED no flash doesn't seem to alert the deer like the red flash does. Normally with the red flash the deer were constantly looking right at the cam. Not the case with this one.
The cam produces a very bright flash in the center of the picture. I have been mounting mine about six foot up a tree, angled down. It seems to work better that way for me.
A lot of comments I read said the 2013 model had issues with the case leaking. I built a custom mount with a little roof over it to help keep the water off of it although most have commented that the issue was fixed on the 2014 models.
The only thing I have not been satisfied with is the cu...

I Like These - I Have 3

by Noeule, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 21, 2015
I recently replaced all my various cameras with three of these. They are relatively easy to program in the "Custom" mode. I like using the external battery jack because I have my cameras at feeders with lots of activity. I don't want to run out of power taking 40 pictures per day. I like hunting hogs at night and find the night picture range a real benefit over my other cameras. The no glow flash doesn't seem to bother deer, hogs, raccoons, or opossums.

I like that the battery tray can be removed and loaded outside the camera. That makes it easier to replace the internal batteries that keep the programming while I swap out the external rechargeable battery.

Love Stealth Cam

by DRM8854, from TX, United States Written on November 6, 2014
My other game cam is a Stealth Cam. I use the 12V batteries. This unit looks great and is easier to set up than the other model I have. Placed this cam about 75 ft. from my feeder just to test at farther distances. Will report on results latter. Fast shipping!
Pros:
  • small size
  • 12 volt adapter
  • Pre Programed choices
Cons:
  • None
