I'm not a knife collector, I purchase knives for a specific purpose. I was looking for a tactical folder to carry in those situations that are appropriate for a heavy defense weapon. My EDC folder is a Benchmade Barrage 580. I always thought that this was a very capable blade, and still do. The Steel Will Apostate is another animal though. It is beefy and solid, locks up like a fixed blade, and opens with a liquid snap. The blade (I purchased the drop point) is thick and has great looking bevels along the spine that don't show up in pictures, and is wicked sharp. It is a lot lighter than it looks due to the Titanium and G10 scales and fits my hand (which are smallish) well no matter which way I grip it.
The main problem I have with the knife, which keeps me from giving it five stars, is the pocket clip. It is shaped such that it protrudes into your hand when your gripping it. The BM Barrage has a clip that is designed with a curved clip that blends naturally with the grip and aids your hand hold. Also, I would prefer a clip that allows for deeper carry, a substantial portion of the knife is visible outside of the pocket. Finally, the BM Barrage clip slides over the seam of my pockets easily, making it easy to insert and extract. The Apostate's clip is very rigid and takes some finagling to get over the seam, and with light pants I've had to use two hands.
