Steiner 10x56mm Nighthunter XP Roof Prism Hunting Binoculars w/ HD Optics 5561

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on January 6, 2012
My new Steiner 10X56 Nighthunter binoculars are fantastic. I have a thing for binoculars and own pairs by most of the major manufactures and they all make really nice glasses. However, for the money, in the 10X56 category, for low light use, the Nighthunter is by far the best value on the market. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for and you can certainly pay more and get really good glasses, but in this case you won't be getting anything better. Size, ergonomics, light transmission, brightness, clarity, ease of focus, the way the objective covers fit into the eyepiece cover and the way the eyepiece covers work with the strap, all just work really well. I initially thought the HD coating was just marketing hype. But no joke, its like watching hi def TV. The only improvement I would like to see is the ability to lock the focus once set. It is inevitable that in low light situations you will inadvertently hit the focus wheel and then struggle to refocus when there is not enough light. This is not unique to the Nighthunter but a general improvement needed on most binoculars regardless of price.
