Outstanding binos - but a bit heavy - Steiner 8x56 Predator C5 Binoculars

I have owned the Steiner Predator C5 binoculars in 8x56 for several years so I have a lot of field time with them. I'll start with my only complaint to get that out of the way. These things are heavy so wear a good strap if you're going to be using them all day. That's the price you must pay for the 56mm lenses & the low light performance they provide.

These are the absolute best binos I've ever used. They consistently outperform much pricier brands/models. I am always able to check my shooting lanes prior to "shooting light" and can nearly always distinguish bucks & does at 200 yards well ahead of full light. A well healed friend swears by his Swaros - but he's jealous of how good these are at less than 1/2 the price. In good light the Swaros are a little sharper but in low light my Steiners win hands down. Rain or shine, hot or cold these baby's just continue to perform.
The ability to roll down the extendable eye cups means that I can use these effectively with my eye glasses on. That's critical for me because of major astigmatism. I then fine tune for max clarity.

I carry them in a medium Maxpedition Fatboy bag and the binos fit perfectly in the center compartment. I overpack that bag when I'm hunting. My HK45 & 2 spare clips fit in the back, plus compass, range finder and a good assortment of field-dressing gear. The bag probably weights more than 10lbs but it's so sturdy that it still looks almost new in spite of being 10 years old. I can hang it off my 4-wheeler and not worry for 1 second that it won't be there when I need it.

Back to the Steiners: These are absolutely the best binos for the money. I upgraded from some Nikon 8x56's and there is no comparison. The Nikons are pretty nice but when you compare them side by side in low light the quality of the Steiners shows through every time. I loan out the Nikons all the time but never my Steiners. I found mine way below retail - so shop around.
