Outstanding

by Eric, from FL, United States Written on April 9, 2024
I have had mine for 10 years. Got them as an upgrade when my MM830 were sent back for repair. Have used them in Iraq, hunting, target shooting, football game watching, at the beach. Excellent piece of Teutonic engineering. Highly recommended.

Solid Bit of All-Purpose Kit

by Alf, Verified Owner from QUEENSLAND, Australia Written on September 19, 2022
I've had these for a few months now, so feel able to put some thoughts down on paper. Overall, great pair of binos, particularly if you're specifically after Porros rather than roof prisms. Optics are very sharp and clear. There's a bit of distortion towards the edges, but not that you'd notice unless you go looking for it. There's also occasional ghosting from bright light sources out of the field of view at night, put that down to the objectives being set quite shallow, but if you're looking specifically for low-light binos I doubt you're down here in the 30mm-range objectives anyway. These are compact, all-purpose, kit that'll see you through in most conditions. In terms of brightness they're good for what they are, and seem to give about on par with what you see with the naked eye. Easy to use with glasses too, and the combination of set-and-forget focus and long depth of field suits my usage just fine.

In terms of build they seem solidly put together and nicely compact. I bought a case, but aside from being a convenient storage place at home it was a bit of a waste of money as they tend to just get stuffed in the top of my pack or ride around my neck. No qualms about either. The shape also fits really securely in hand. All up, very happy.
Pros:
  • compact
  • Robust
  • Sharp & bright optics.
  • set and forget focus
Cons:
  • some ghosting from bright light sources out of field of view
  • Compact, but still larger than equivalent roofs

Best compact Binocular with reticle

by WJP, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on January 4, 2018
These are the same binos I used as a Marine Infantry Officer 35 years ago. Loved them then, love them now. Compact and light, fantastic optics. Negligible footprint in your pack or on your person. Great in low light. The reticle makes range estimation easy. If you don't know how to range estimate with a MilDot reticle, don't worry - there are plenty of tutorials on line, written and video. Just google it. Only thing I would change is the eyecups: I wear glasses so U have to fold them back. Eventually the rubber will crack. Replacements are available directly from Steiner, but a better solution is the hard plastic caps that "screw" down, like you find on Nikon binos. Not a reason not to by. If you're looking for a compact binocular with a reticle, these are the ones to get.
Pros:
  • Quality
  • reticle
  • optics very clear and bright
Cons:
  • Eyepiece Adj. Soft

8X30mm M30r with ranging reticle

by Rhinestone Cowboy, from FL, United States Written on December 25, 2014
Very good binoculars, very clear glass. It's 8 magnification all the time, no adjustment.
I would not recommend getting the ranging feature, it's not laser etc., you have to personally know the size of an object then use ranging reticle accordingly.
