Matvey's Review of Steiner DRS 1x Defendu Reflex Sight
(Barely) Negatives: I'll have to get the QD mount eventually: The knob isn't so bad, but you have to really tighten it to get it on there properly. The actual red dot is rather high up in the FOV compared to a centered EOtech or Aimpoint. It could maybe be nice to get different color reticle options, my friend has some eye issues so all his optics need to be green or amberish.
Positives: It's got a wider FOV than anything else I have, and the glass is immaculate. It doesnt take up much rail space, but also doesnt lean wide over the sides too much. I have yet to accidentally bump it with my fingers while operating my AR-style carbine. I was looking for a fiber-optic reflex sight at first so I could just not use batteries, but those can wash out looking from shadow into brightness - and this will not. So, I had to use batteries. But, being AA, they are plentiful and found not only in all the big stores here; but in a lot of Gas Stations, too. It only requires one battery, but has space for two. I won't say you can't ding it up (cause I can't afford to purposely stress test my optics and luckily havent fallen off tall embankments into any creeks... yet.) but it feels super tough. The rubber buttons being on top rather than the sides give it a sleeker appeal than it's predecessor the R1x.
Where it really beats the competition for me is the huge FOV, the crystal clear glass, and the larger "10 meter close-in" reticle dot in the third mode.
