Excellent unit
This is a GREAT unit with excellent capabilities at a nice price point. You can get an IR only laser for around $530, or a unit with IR and visible laser along with an infrared illuminator for around $1,200. This unit gives you both IR laser and IR illuminator (which is laser based, not LED) in one package, and at just a shade under $800.
The only potential drawback I can see is that a left hand shooter will have trouble activating the laser without using a remote pressure pad, since the button is located on the left side of the unit. For a right handed shooter, it works great with or with...

A great buy
Easy to mount and remove- strong clear beam with variable strength and a safety dial. Doesn’t take up much real wastage and with multiple switch options, this is a versatile piece of kit that doesn’t break the bank. It’s not the end all be all by any means, but this is a great all rounder. A must for night goons.

Good product for civilian market
The DBAL-I2 is a good product for what you might want to use in the civilian world. The IR pointer is great, it can be seen over 300 meters through the PVS-14. The 4 stars was for the IR illuminator, it does a good job at illuminating out to about 50-75 meters, but after that, it falls off. If you need to see farther out, you’ll need to invest in something like a Surefire Scout M640V that has the IR feature.
Pros:
- Great IR pointer
Cons:
- Weak IR Illuminator

Steiner DBAL
Nice laser for the price. Does everything I need it to do. It does come with a pressure pad so don’t order one. The metal case is sturdy and nicely built. I look forward to increasing my night vision capabilities
Pros:
- Small, metal case, easy to use
Cons:
- None yet I just got it
Best Used for:
- Night vision

Good to go for night work
Realistically most people never use day lasers unless it’s for show of force. Also it’s nice that you don’t have to worry about an laser ND. It’s awesome that Steiner has this option. Not only is it discounted which is a plus but it illuminates things that you don’t use or need if your purpose is as such.
Best Used for:
- Night fighting

Does The Job, Solid
This Steiner DBAL-I2 is the second Steiner DBAL I have purchased and I am very pleased with both. My other is a green visible laser. This laser like my first Steiner is very well made, tough, it always preforms perfectly and is easy to use. I use a Surefire dual tape switch to activate this DBAL and my light and that integrated without any issues. The mount is rock solid and the profile is low enough so no need to seek out an aftermarket mount. Highly recommended.

Not a PEQ-15, but Close Enough
The only other experience I have with lasers is with a PEQ-15. The dbal-i2 stacks up nicely. Appears durable and performs nicely. I wish it had a visible laser, but I didn't want to pay for it. Overall, good laser.
Pros:
- IR Illuminator
- Durable construction
Cons:
- no visible laser
Best Used for:
- hunting
- Self-Defense

Great Product
Strong build. Works great, and works as advertised. Will be buying again. Sturdy feel and well designed. Feels light but strong. Optics planet delivered quick as promised, and had the absolute best price on the internet.

Rugged excellent performing laser
The build quality is top notch, absolutely built to last with simple dedicated switches/settings instead of consumer style guff features. The included pressure remote reaches nicely from my side rail to the hand. IR beam quality maintains a tight line at a very significant distance, illuminator helps to add visibility over the usual head lamp. Haven't tried much more than a light rain but it is definitely water resistant. I didn't have a large outdoor range to sight this with at night, so I used my cheap backup picatinny bushnell nightsight at a regular indoor range.
Pros:
- rugged
- Build quality
- Waterproof
- Pro grade features
- Laser quality
Cons:
- None for me
Best Used for:
- Nightvision shooting
