Solid mil-based scope for hunting

by cclaws, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on November 17, 2025
I used the Steiner H6Xi 3-18x50 STR-MIL for hunting this year and love this scope. I figured a review might be helpful for those on the fence. I'll start by saying it got banged around a bit as I dropped my rifle/scope a couple times but it was all good when I retested everything. I use MIL so I can use it for some precision shooting and hunting both. Not everyone will prefer that but it is definitely my preference. They have an MOA version but I have no experience with that. With the Steiner STR-MIL reticle - it is easy enough to dial elevation and aim center with the bolder thicker portions of the horizontal and lower vertical bar sections pointing to the middle so the "complicated" reticle some complain about is a total non issue for me. The glass is very clear I'd say "almost perfect" edge to edge and awesome in low light. Illumination is good in low light situations in a cross pattern and nicely adjustable for no bleed when tuned. Probably the most differentiating positive for me is the wider field of view compared to the other scopes I've owned - it just looks better, clearer, wider when viewing the target downrange for my eyes. The turrets work well and are fairly crisp, not too loud, and adjust easily with gloves on for both feel and sound. Some might complain they are a bit mushy and I think that is fair. They are low profile and elevation comes with a capped version if you want. When zeroing you have to line up the marks "manually" while tightening set screws ...

fantastic for precision gas guns

by Klarek, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on September 12, 2025
i was in the market and nearly purchased the nx8 2.5-20x50 when this new STR-MIL reticle got my attention. i decided to give it a chance since the price was almost half with the sale that was going on plus opticsplanet has such a great return policy. long story short, its not going back. turrets feel amazing. glass clarity, image quality and light transmission are beyond almost every scope ive had my hands on. the elevation turret is low enough to clear for an aimpoint acro on a rof90 from reptilia. the reticle is exactly what i had hoped for giving every bit of info i wanted without being cluttered in the slightest. paring with an acro at 12 oclock this is my favorite optics package i currently own. definitely would recomend.
