CC's Review of Steiner Navigator Pro 7x50mm Porro Prism Binoculars
I got these to keep on my boat because I didn't want to be without my Swarovskis which live in my house. The field of view is about twice what it is on my Swarovskis which is better for boating and while the optics are not quite as good (they go through a prism and cost 1/7th the price) they are excellent compared to almost every other brand. The comparison is really unfair and these are better than mostpeople ever see.
The coatings provide good contract and the clarity is sufficient for the magnification. The magnification is low enough to be stable on the water and sufficient to see the speed and heading(and thanks to the compass the direction)of anything near enough to potentially hit you before you collide and that's why you have binoculars on your boat. When your friends ask why you didn't buy the image stabilization ones smack them. Unnecessary for recreational boating and another battery to remember.
The compass is easy to read when level using my bifocals. They rubber coating is not slippery when wet and your middle finger falls on the illumination button. Also you could hold a flashlight to the sun reticle if the battery died, but if these are the only compass on your boat you deserve whatever happens to you.
Save the millspec ones for when you need to call in artillery fire and the image stabilization ones for professional boat drivers. If you have a boat between 11 and 55 feet these are the ones for you.
Buy the floaty strap so they float and tell Steiner to make them in yellow again.
Pros:
Easy to use. Very clear optics
Cons:
Bigger than expected
Best Used for:
Boating
Would Recommend:
Yes
