Most Helpful Positive Review Top quality with great viewing picture
Very pleased the R1X as it is of top quality in its rugged build and very intuitive to use with basic & sure button controls along with a wide viewing field. The 2-option red dot with a single and three-dot stadia view is nice, although the single dot will easily suffice for my needs.
Most Helpful Negative Review A good effort, but mediocre
The red dot stadia is simple too close together to use in any speedy manner not to mention Steiner releases zero data on what caliber/grain/velocity the other 2 red dots are zeroed for. There are also reflections of the internal eletronics on the highest 4 settings, just like the trijicon SRS. If ...

Glass distorts visual field

by JJ, Verified Owner from IA, United States Written on January 3, 2020
I bought this on sale. Mounted on an AR platform and was somewhat dissatisfied with the lens.. the field is clear but the image is a little distorted. It's kinda like looking thru glasses that aren't yours. With a name like Steiner behind them I anticipated better glass.
Pros:
  • Stout, well built bright reticle
Cons:
  • Image Distortion
Best Used for:
  • plinking

Excellent for short to mid range engagements

by GMS, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on October 24, 2019
I own and regularly use Aimpoints, Trijicon MROs, & C-More optics for practical competition (mostly 3 gun, but some bay stage URL, & UML matches). I've had my eye on this optic since it came on the scene. The $600+ price scared me off. Now that it is on "clearance" at $300, I bought one. It is amazing. Huge field of view (20% better than the MRO). The dots are crisp with clean edges (and I do have mild astigmatism). The housing is robust. The mount is solid. Battery changes are a breeze. Controls are simple and easy to manipulate. At the current price point, this optic is a steal.
Pros:
  • Durability
  • field of view
  • reticle
Cons:
  • 2 batteries
Best Used for:
  • Practical shooting/Competition

Not truly bad but not worth the price, get an Eotech instead.

by John, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on August 17, 2019
I bought this because it seemed to have the same characteristics of an Eotech, but it ended up being more of a cheap knockoff. While you can still acquire targets with the same quickness you’d expect with an Eotech, the reticles leave a lot to be desired. You have your main red dot, and three red dots below that for varying distances to the target. However these dots all give off a significant glare, to the point that it’s rather hard to distinguish them. So it comes out looking as though they’re all mashed together. This leaves your options as only to use the top of the red mass in your sight or the bottom of it to aim. There are only 3 brightness settings (5 if you count the night vision settings), so it’s impossible to turn it down to a setting which eliminates the glare and allows you to concentrate on the smallest part of the red dot possible. A $500+ sight shouldn’t have this problem. If you’re going to spend that much, you’re better off going with Eotech or Aimpoint.
Pros:
  • Target acquisition
  • speed
Cons:
  • Price $$$
  • Overall quality
  • retical quality
  • brightness adjustment

Steiner, says it all. Very good sight. Well protected from bumps. Nice size dot.
Good battery life. Three/one dot is excellent idea. Very simple adjustment to zero.
Solid connection to the rail. Glass is very clear.

Robust, great for close quarters

by Devdog, from CA, United States Written on July 21, 2019
Can’t beat the price Optics Planet is offering them at. Giant field of view with a big crisp red dot in the middle. Upon initial use I found that it takes the laser a bit to warm up so to speak... thought I might’ve gotten a lemon but give it some time thing is very bright now. I’ve yet to mount it or shoot it yet I will update once I do
Best Used for:
  • Close range , quick aquisition
