Rascal's Review of Steiner T5Xi 1-5x24 mm Rifle Scope 30mm Tube Second Focal Plane

Glass is exceptional, great having a variable power optic that you can use as a red dot and also range out to 600 yards with. Problem is, it ONLY ranges out to 600 yards. Well, let me be honest here... there are more problems than that. With PPU 75 grain match ammo out of my SCAR 16 and a 200 yard zero for this reticle, (This reticle is calibrated for and designed for a 200 yard zero ) by the time i'm at 600 yards, i would be holding 5.5 mils for 117.9" of drop VERSUS 77grain IMI ammo, which for a 200 yard zero, has me holding 4.3 mils at 600 yards for 92.2" of drop. THAT is a big difference right there.
So know what you're buying here... this is not a precision scope.. this is a scope that is serviceable as a red dot... with exceptionally clear glass... that you can figure out a DOPE on for a few different types of ammunition that have similar trajectories. That's going to take you doing some homework, which begs the question... WHY IN THE WORLD DIDN"T STEINER MAKE THIS IN A MIL HASH CONFIGURATION FOR SMART PEOPLE INSTEAD OF LAZY PEOPLE WHO AREN"T SMART AND DON"T REALIZE THERE IS ACTUALLY MORE WORK INVOLVED IN GETTING NOT ONLY A D.O.P.E. FOR YOUR PARTICULAR SET UP BUT THE EQUIVALENT HOLDS FOR THIS T3R RETICLE ??? ? ?? ?? ?? ?
Pros:
  • great glass, works well as a red dot
Cons:
  • PRICE, BDC reticle, 600 yard max range
Best Used for:
  • 3 gun with 1 or 2 types of ammo you've memorized holds for.
