David's Review of Streamlight TLR RM 2 Laser Rail Mounted Tactical Lighting System
These are my favorite lights for ARs with red dots. The press for constant-on and hold for momentary-on is great. I mount them at 12:00. For night shooting, I rest my thumb over the light and use the button on the light to activate it (I don’t use a remote switch). It’s especially convenient because it’s easy/comfortable/thoughtless to activate the light regardless of which hand is my support hand (great for shoulder transitions).
I wrap electrical tape around the rear a couple times to ensure the rubber insert for the remote switch port doesn’t fall out. Then I put 1-2 ranger bands around the electrical tape to add some padding between the light and my thumb knuckle (I c-clamp directly behind the light when it’s daytime and treat it like a hand-stop; I like the underside of the rail to be smooth).
On a 9” rail, the light is visible in the bottom ~15% of the optic on 1.93” height optics, but it’s not noticeable when using the weapon. The light takes up more of the sight picture with longer rails, but I still don’t notice it with a 13” rail. If you’re using a magnified optic, I recommend an offset light.
