Jonah One-Three's Review of Streamlight Wedge Lithium Polymer 1000 Lumens LED Flashlight

I own this flashlight in both bronze and black colors. I also own the original Wedge (see this link https://www.opticsplanet.com/streamlight-88810-wedge-flashlight-300-lumens-led-aluminum-black-usb-c.html) and have had it for about two and a half years, so I feel like I know this product well enough to review both of the wedge models, the original and this new one. This review will cover both, focusing on this model more than the original.
Bottom line, you really can't go wrong with either. Both models are great because of their fundamental features they have in common. I would not say that one is necessarily better than the other--each person will have more or less of a preference for their different features.
These flashlights, both this model and the original, are VERY easy to keep in any pocket, including the pocket of a dress shirt. If you buy it, you will keep it with you all the time, and you'll find you use it all the time, and you'll get your money's worth.
Battery life is extraordinary and the LED battery indicator is extremely handy. In 2 1/2 years I've never been caught with the battery fully discharged. Also, after 2 1/2 years the battery still seems to hold its full charge.
These are rugged flashlights. I've dropped mine a few times but it's never sustained damage, not even the lens.
The high-low beam feature of this new model is surprisingly valuable. The low-beam is sufficient for almost everything I need to do with this flashlight, whether it's reading a map in the dark or finding a bolt that's rolled under the workbench. Sometimes, when my eyes are acclimated to the dark, the other model, with its single 300 lumen beam, is painful to my eyes. Sure, I can wrap my fingers in front of the lens a bit to tone down the output, but the low beam on this model eliminates that problem. The high beam is handy to have outdoors at night when you need to see what's happening around you. The high beam on this model is rated for more lumens than the single beam on the other model, but in practice I find either one adequate for my needs.
The beam patterns of both models is fine.
The position of the switch makes a lot of difference, but different folks will prefer one or the other. If you think you may need to use a flashlight to assist in the defensive use of a handgun in the dark, this may make a big difference for you. This newer model has the switch on the back, so you can grip the flashlight like an ice-pick and still work the switch. On the other hand, you have to be a little careful that you don't accidentally turn on the switch when you're pushing the flashlight down into your pocket.
The other model has the switch near the lamp in the front. It takes a little more time to draw it out of your pocket and turn it on, but that's at most an inconvenience, not a hardship. You can stand it on its end on a flat, level surface, with the beam pointing upward at the ceiling, to provide diffused light over a fairly large area indoors. The newer, smaller model (the one that is the main subject of this review) can't do that because of the switch on the back.
