Phil D.'s Review of Streamlight Wedge Lithium Polymer 1000 Lumens LED Flashlight

I have been carrying the original Wedge for over a year, & love the features & how it works. My only complaint about the original Wedge, was its long length. When the XT came out, with its shorter overall length, I thought it was the answer to my wishes. I thought the new tail cap switch & added features would be a nice change & make it a more “tactical” friendly light. I read all the instructions & warnings (about accidental activation & the high heat output that can cause burns) and started carrying it after mastering the programming. I was working around my home, standing, sitting, walking, repeat. Within approximately 15 minutes, I felt an intensely uncomfortable sensation on the front of my left thigh, like I was being poked by a sharp object. In checking my left/front pants pocket, I discovered that the light was on - burning my leg! (Very minor with no serious damage). I am right handed & carry my light clipped inside of my left/front pants pocket to be used by my “weak” hand, keeping my weapon hand free. In experimenting with carrying the Wedge XT I discovered that simply sitting down was often enough to activate the light. Programming the light with the 10-touch /5-touch feature to turn it off/on so the rear tail cap switch wouldn’t turn on, in my opinion, simply isn’t a viable option, as if you needed the light immediately on in an emergency, it takes too long to cycle through the programming to reactivate the switch! I stopped carrying the XT. If Streamlight were to put the original roller-switch on the XT, or install an easy to activate safety lock so the light couldn’t accidentally turn on, I would reconsider using it.
Pros:
  • Smaller size/length.
Cons:
  • On switch is too sensitive & easy to accidentally activate.
Would Recommend: No
