From looking at some of the photos of the lighthead, I wondered if this was going to be worthwhile... It looked like some small LEDs that were in an oversized head. Was I ever wrong.
The light output is not only relative even, it reaches out on high far beyond the advertised specs.
The instructions are clear, but here are some tips to make things easier... To retrofit my old lightbox (I'm on my second battery), the old head was completely removed; this entailed clipping some terminals so the wiring could be pulled out. I found the hole in the new head is a bit small for the wiring from the battery, but lightly coating the cable with some dishwashing soap made things much easier. Once the wiring is inside, the provided wire terminals need to be crimped on the previous clipped ends. One word of advice... use the correct tool for the job. Pliers will NOT properly crimp the terminals. (Besides, you don't want to cut corners on a light that your life depends on!) Select the level of light that you want, install the cover on the back of the light, and you're done.
PROS: Awesome light output/pattern. The optics do a great job of throwing a far-reaching, wide beam.
CONS: Switching from high to low power is not a simple task ans requires a screwdriver to open the back of the lighhead so you can move a jumper. I tried both jumper settings, and settled on the high level. I have an abundance of light, with an 8-hour run time. (If I get involved in an extended incident where it's obivious that I'm going to need maximum run time, I can always grab a screwdriver out of the firetruck or cruiser and make a'field' adjustment.)
One final thought... the rear cover fits well, but is not gasketed. I would say that the lighthead is splashproof, but I have reservations about it being waterproof or suitable for some hazardous locations.
All in all, it's a great upgrade and worth every penny.
Stay safe, everyone.
Pros: Amazing light output
Cons: Switching from high to low is cumbersome
