Works Great. Buy it

First off, this is a FLOOD light. If you need a search light or more correctly a lite that casts a beam further then but the OTHER upgrade offered.

While this is a flood light it still cast a beam pretty far. In practical terms this is probably the most useful option for 90 percent of the usage this light will see. We use it as an emergency light when it sits in its cradle in the garage and also for camping when we take it along and charge it in the truck.

The upgrade was easy and we set the jumper pin for LONGER life VS Brighter Light. Again in real usage the difference is negligible and its best to have longer life in 90 percent of usage. After the upgrade i set it out and let it run till burnout and it lasted approx 12 HOURS! Thats what an LED upgrade does for this light!

if you have lower than average mechanical ability, don't try this without some help. its easy peasy for anyone with basic mechanical skills.

An Upgrade Well Worth the Money

by wa8ruo, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on January 8, 2013
From looking at some of the photos of the lighthead, I wondered if this was going to be worthwhile... It looked like some small LEDs that were in an oversized head. Was I ever wrong.
The light output is not only relative even, it reaches out on high far beyond the advertised specs.
The instructions are clear, but here are some tips to make things easier... To retrofit my old lightbox (I'm on my second battery), the old head was completely removed; this entailed clipping some terminals so the wiring could be pulled out. I found the hole in the new head is a bit small for the wiring from the battery, but lightly coating the cable with some dishwashing soap made things much easier. Once the wiring is inside, the provided wire terminals need to be crimped on the previous clipped ends. One word of advice... use the correct tool for the job. Pliers will NOT properly crimp the terminals. (Besides, you don't want to cut corners on a light that your life depends on!) Select the level of light that you want, install the cover on the back of the light, and you're done.
PROS: Awesome light output/pattern. The optics do a great job of throwing a far-reaching, wide beam.
CONS: Switching from high to low power is not a simple task ans requires a screwdriver to open the back of the lighhead so you can move a jumper. I tried both jumper settings, and settled on the high level. I have an abundance of light, with an 8-hour run time. (If I get involved in...
