PBguy's Review of Streamlight TLR-7 HL-X 1913 Sub USB Multi-Fuel High-Lumen Rail-Mounted Light

I’ve been running the TLR-HLX Sub on a few different pistols now and figured I’d share some real-world impressions.

On a G19 with a P80 lower, it’s basically a perfect fit — sits flush and looks right at home. On the Sig 365XL, it sticks out about 0.3" past the muzzle, which you’ll notice if you care about that kind of thing, but it’s not obnoxious. On the 365 Fuse, it’s actually about 0.2" short, which I didn’t mind at all and honestly kind of prefer for carry.

As far as brightness goes, I can’t tell any real difference between this and the full-size HLX. Side by side, they look just as bright to my eyes. The full-size HLX might have a slightly tighter beam, but we’re really splitting hairs here. This thing is way brighter than your standard 500-lumen pistol lights — no contest. Those older 500-lumen lights feel pretty dated once you use this.

The beam has a nice balance — good hotspot with plenty of spill, which actually makes it more useful indoors or around structures. Build quality feels solid, mounts up tight, and I haven’t had any issues with recoil or fit loosening up.
Pros:
  • bright
Cons:
  • Wider than Subcompact guns, widening your holster a bit
Best Used for:
  • G19
