Smith's Review of Streamlight TLR-7X Flex LED Tactical Weapon Light w/Rear Switch Options
I have previously reviewed the older version of this light, also with a 5-star review. This light takes the switch to a more useful configuration. Also, it works great with most holsters designed for the older version TLR-7. I find that very useful, especially when my preferred holsters, DoubleClick Holsters SafeCarry Ranger (double retention model), does not need further modification for the new model weapon light. I leave the high switch installed, and it works for both myself and my girlfriend very well. Lumens output, width of bright spot, and distance traveled by light are very acceptable and good. This is especially true if you consider flashlights and weapon lights of just five or ten years ago. I mainly chose this light due to size being small, the main body is aluminum and tough, battery power is CR123A or similar, brand name and reputation of Streamlight, value, 500 lumen output, and my own personal experience with other versions by this company. The small size also equates to a smaller holster footprint, whereas I used to run the TLR-1S and it was much more bulky for the entrance and funnel in specific portions of my holsters. This matters more, in my mind, to Inside the Waist Band carry. I have tried some clamshell designs on weapon lights before, but even the nice ones fall short of a more solid body design, and metal composition. The 1913 Picatinny Arsenal style rail design is also appreciated, or even differently spaced similar designs, such as the Glock or Springfield Armory pistol rail designs. I get tired of the proprietary rail designs, and have recently went back to the standard size in full size or compact pistols. Under hard use, remember to use blue locking fluid on the fastener. I also use a soft cloth and gun oil/cleaner to clear the lens up, depending on how your muzzle blast and barrel length effect fouling or dirt accumulation. I would recommend to a friend. I own several of these lights, and quality is consistent and high. Some special rail adaptors, fastener tool, sticker, directions/manual, application chart, extra switch for low use, battery, and e-clips come in the package. I have never had to send a Streamlight product back for work, and only wear off paint and wear out the buttons from thousands and thousands of activations. Having a light on your firearm at night, and when civil unrest occur is very important. Stay safe out there.
