SGT Harrup's Review of Streamlight TLR-8A LED Weapon Light and Laser

First let me preface this review by saying I bought this product while I was stationed overseas. Since returning from deployment I have only put 200 rounds of 115gr ball through my Glock with this unit mounted on it. This unit has seen almost no use at all. That being said this thing has been nothing but a colossal waste of money. The first issue I noticed is that the laser on it cannot hold windage at all. The user manual states that the laser can be zeroed out to 100 feet but I have never been able to get it to hold at just 30 feet. The windage will just drift by itself even without firing the weapon or without even picking it up. Also the mounting system on this light is terrible. I used the factory recommend rail key for my weapon (1913-1) and you can visibly see the laser POI shift left/right while simply pressing the activation switch on the unit. I have also had to re-order mounting hardware from Streamlight directly because whatever material they make the mounting screw out of is extremely fragile and will snap with minimal tightening. The final straw was when I went to replace the unit’s battery for the first time this morning (one year since I began using the TLR-8 A) and hearing a snap while retightening the lens cap to the front of the unit. It won’t even power on now and I have contacted customer service. Please, please, please, if you are going to trust a piece of tactical equipment with your life do not let it be this POS. Buy a Surefire or literally anything else besides this toy.
