One08dragon's Review of Strike Industries Enhanced AR-15 Complete Lower Parts Kit
This is a very high quality LPK. But, functionally, not much different than, say, a mil spec Aero LPK. I have installed these in four lowers, so far. The fit and finish with these parts, is excellent. Like others have stated, the ambi selector has no instructions. So, you need to test fit the parts, before final assembly. I put a dab of blue locktite on the selector screws, to ensure they didn't shoot loose.
Pros:
- The trigger and hammer springs, in the kits I received, all set the trigger break at right over 4lbs.
- I used two of these spring sets, to replace the 9lbs springs in a couple of Spikes Battle fire control sets. They broke at a little over 4 lbs, as well.
- The take down pins, aside from just looking cool, extend a bit out of the left side of the receiver, to facilitate easier takedown, by giving you some pin, to push past the detent lock.
- The head end of the take down pins, also have lands, to get your finger nails under, to pull them out. I.thought that was a nice touch, too.
- The mag release button head has a little recess, in the center, that looks like it would prevent your finger from slipping off of it. But, I've never had that issue with the mil spec parts.
- The take down pins have detent pins that actually "pin center" in their springs. I thought that was a nice touch, too.
- Although I've never really needed them, I like the idea of an ambi selector switch. These are semi mil spec, I would assume, to cut down on acclimation time to it.
- Overall, these parts kits are on par, pricewise, with most other aftermarket mil spec parts kits. Especially, if purchased retail. So, if you need a LPK for an initial build, this isn't a bad way to go.
Cons:
- If you're ok with the hit or miss nature of pull weights, with mil spec kits, this kit is overkill, in that respect.
- Not enough increase in quality of trigger action, to justify swapping it out, from mil spec, in my opinion. But, that's just me.
- The mag catch arm fit tolerance was a little sloppy, and tends to hang up, if you push the button too far. But, that was only an issue with a Spike lower. And, shouldn't be an issue in regular use.
Best Used for:
- Great "go to" kit, for a custom build. Probably one of the last "mods" I'd purchase for a rifle, already in service.
