I bought these more out of curiosity than anything. I mean, back up sights for your back up sights?
So I envisioned these on a rifle with a magnified optic (scope) mounted with see through rings, to have an emergency sighting system while the scope is still mounted if the scope does a crash and burn. Once the scope is removed at first opportunity you could use the conventional flip up sights. The concept is solid, the execution, not so much.
First off, "notch" of the rear "pistol" sight back up sight is waaaaay to wide to use with the sights mounted at normal carbine length. They would need to be mounted somewhere in the range of normal pistol sights to be useable. But in doing so, you lose the precision possible with carbine or rifle length sight radius when using the sights as flip-up sights. Maybe they might be useable on a very short barreled AR pistol but for any normal carbine or rifle type applications the back up "pistol" sights are absolutely useless. Also, the back of the sights, the side toward the shooter, is sloped. They're also serrated to prevent glare, but when I see the back of a rear sight sloped, along with that obscenely wide notch it makes me think the person who designed it had no clue what they're doing.
They also seem to be of rather fragile construction. I doubt they would survive a hard knock if they were flipped up. I would describe them as "airsoft quality". I would not trust them on anything for serious social diplomacy.
The upside is the s...
