One Mile Up's Review of Strike SISIDEWINDER Sidewinder Iron Sights AR-15 Black
Strike Industries has done it again! I _really_ dig the forward thinking that was put into these BUIS. I bought these for my Sig Sauer MCX Virtus (Patrol)... so my review is going to be biased towards that platform... lol. The sights themselves are great. They come in a really nice package, finish is really nice... but the instructions could be a tad better IMO... I'll get into that in a minute... but overall -- I'm pleased with the sights.
When attaching them to the MCX Virtus hand-guard / upper rail, I ran into some problems:
You might read reviews of these sights saying that they don't fit certain rails and I can't help but wonder if they simply didn't know how to install the sights properly. THIS is why I feel that Strike Industries should update their instructions on how to install them. I almost gave up... but then I noticed I was doing it wrong. You have to fold the sights a certain way ("in" -vs- "out" | out meaning hanging off the side of the firearm at the 45º offset), and you also have to tilt them on their side (the side where the sight is located NOT the side where the screw is to tighten them down to the rail) and then lay them over the top of the rail, then insert the part that locks the sight down to the rail and tighten it with the screw.
The only problem I ran into while installing them on my MCX Virtus was the fit... The design of the FIREARM makes these sights NOT fit as designed. The sights won't fit on the rail flush due to the geometry of the hand-guard / upper receiver.
What I found though is that you have to file down a small portion on the sights themselves in order for them to sit flush and fold in and out (utilizing the detents for locking them "in", and "45º"). Not a hard thing to do - but just know that they won't fit as designed without modifying them just a tad!
