Most Helpful Positive Review SureFire E2D Led Defender Ultra Flashlight, 500 Lumens
I generally have shot NRA High power Rifle and Handgun metallic silhouette competitions. Recently, I have taken a number of CCW classes; training included instructions for shooting in low light situations. The courses were taught by retired military, border patrol, and police officers. They generall...

Most Helpful Negative Review Batteries don't last
No complaints about the output of light, but the batteries have horrible lasting power. I use it several minutes each night and have to change batteries every few weeks. I have found comparable flashlights that are much less expensive and last significantly longer.

Great Light!

by William, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on September 17, 2024
I have had a handful of different brand lights over the years and they all work well. Surefire lights are expensive, but they are built tougher than the rest. If you want more than two brightness settings, you may want to consider a different light. However, if you need a light that is compact, durable and has a high output/great throw this light is for you.

E2D Defender

by Bear365, from ID, United States Written on November 29, 2022
My favorite edc flashlight so far. It has really good output, however I do wish it had more candela. The pocket clip isn't as tight as I'd like it to be either, but despite these two things it's my favorite light I own.

Awesome Everyday Carry Tactical Flashlight

by CA, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on August 1, 2022
I love my SureFire Fury and I was looking for something slightly smaller for everyday carry (EDC). I ordered the SureFire Defender and could not be happier. The Defender has slightly less output (1,000 lumens) vs. the Fury (1,500 lumens), still 1,000 lumens is more than sufficient in 99.9% of the occasions and the Defender is slimmer and comes with a clip attached to the body, making it perfect for EDC. It is also very strong, just like the Fury, making it a perfect strike tool if needed.
Pros:
  • High quality
  • Customer service
  • high output
  • Strong Light weight
  • lifetime warrant
Cons:
  • Expensive
Best Used for:
  • Home Defense
  • Tactical
  • Everyday carry

Just a normal guy

by Chief, from LA, United States Written on October 9, 2021
Great product, I keep it in my truck for quick access. The beam intensity is good and I like the light weight. Also i dropped the flashlight in water, dried it off and continued to use the surefire.

Security contractor/instructor

by Doc, from PA, United States Written on May 30, 2021
This is the most durable and reliable light on the market! I’ve relied on it and it’s predecessors for decades. When your life is on the line, cheaper alternatives, with bells and whistles may not serve you. These are not the cheap toys into which many amateurs put their unfounded trust.
Pros:
  • Reliability, durability, utility!
Cons:
  • None. We get what we pay for.

Underpowered low setting

by Old Guy, Verified Owner from ID, United States Written on March 1, 2021
The light is reliable and the metal construction gives it durability. The smaller diameter makes it easier to carry this in a pocket or bag than the standard size. Love the bright setting, throws the beam a long distance. Fits well in the hand. Not sure why the bezel is jagged but I guess it could be used for striking as a last resort.
There is a clip that allows for the light to be mounted in a pocket but it feels a bit disruptive in the hand and the light is too heavy to try and use the clip to mount it on a hat. The light has two settings, bright and extremely dim. The dim setting is okay if you are trying to find something brightly colored in a bag or see a sidewalk at night but other than that it isn't bright enough to be useful. As a self defense tool going immediately to the bright setting makes sense but if you are trying to use the dim setting you blind yourself turning it on and then have to wait for your eyes to adjust to the underpowered dim setting. The jagged bezel is hard on pockets and makes it easier for security guards to view this as a weapon which doesn't seem worth the benefits. The high power setting goes through batteries quickly.
Pros:
  • bright light
  • durable
  • Size
  • reliable
Cons:
  • underpower low setting
  • rapid battery consumption
Best Used for:
  • defensive tool
