Johnny Utah's Review of SureFire Headlamp, Saint Minimus, M Vision

While I have used flashlights more than headlamps, I have found since getting several from SF, Princeton Tec (PT) and Peztl I have come to appreciate the different design features each brand offers. Specifically with SF they're beam, output and construction has always impressed me. The Saint Mimimus really excels with its minimal profile, strong output (300 lumens max) and highly adjustable output. For the latter, you simply turn the dial to increase or decrease the amount of light.

I also thought the clip-on red light filter was nice. I don't know how much I will be using it, but it's nice it was included. This compared to my PT Remix Pro, the SF Saint Minimus is a purely dedicated headlamp whereas the PT Remix Pro is modular, you can either set it up for MOLLE or as head/helmet light. The same goes for the Petzl Tikkas and similar, those are like the SF, but they use AAAs. Also, the beam is more for flood than throw, so just keep that in mind depending on your desired application. The only gripe I have is a personal preference, it is not able to also accept AA cells. Streamlight's duel-fuel is a great feature on some of their lights. However, the output, output range and minimalist design makes it a great headlamp.
Pros:
  • Lighweight, Output Adjustable, Output
Cons:
  • Only takes CR123s
Best Used for:
  • Hiking, Camping, EDC
