Freeman's Review of SureFire Weapon Mounted Scout Light w/Intelli Beam 600 Lumens

I bought this light to put on my cqb carbine. I had been looking at other scout lights by surefire prior to settling on this one. This one actually caught me by surprise; I wasn't aware of it as it is new on the market. My dilemma was that there would be a tradeoff with the amount of lumens and the scenario. Get an ultra with 600 and I run the risk of blinding myself off of white wall if my eyes have adjusted to the dark. If I go standard 200 lumens and I need to take a long shot I don't have as much power. The surefire m600 with intellibeam solves these issues.

They market the adjustments as being "faster than the human eye can detect." This is true. When I initially mounted it and started to play with it I was a little frustrated because how am I supposed to know if it's functioning properly? Watching videos from SHOT show and surefire website they demonstrate by holding it close to their hand and alternating to the floor and you can visibly see the change on video. My first attempts at this I wasn't sure if I could tell or not with the naked eye. However, after taking the light outside at night and attempting this technique again I was able to visibly see the change, but you have to alternate from your hand to another object very quickly. It's so fast with its adjustments it's impossible to distinguish unless you force it to go from minimum to maximum very abruptly; hence the hand technique. Note that it is constantly adjusting between 100 to 600 lumens depending on the feedback from the sensor in the bezel and these adjustments are going to be undetectable to the naked eye because they are simply happening too fast.

I am extremely pleased with this product. It is the best of both worlds for someone who isn't going to have night vision available and needs a solid, rugged, and dependable tactical light.
Pros:
  • A proven tactical light that now comes with intellibeam.
Cons:
  • Some might say price? With Surefire you get what you pay for. Don't settle for less.
Best Used for:
  • Close to mid range.
