I have very little experience with night vision and IR illumination/lasers and I have not made it to my place in the next state over where I can shoot at night to really put this to the test. However, let me tell you, I was blown away by how bright this thing is, white light as well definitely, but the IR was just blinding indoors with my PVS-14. In the backyard I was worried it was still kind of overkill even. I took it out to the desert and I was lighting up very large hills and ridges. I'm still not even sure how to best make use of it but that's my lack of knowledge. The beam seems like a perfect circle too (white and IR). The laser up close is so bright that it was like a splashy patch rather than a dot but much farther out it looks defined; again, probably a user thing, maybe I can adjust the gain or something, but it stabs out there for a lot farther than I'll be able to realistically shoot so again, thumbs up. The controls seemed a little awkward but I don't know how they could be improved and still offer all the combinations. I purchased this primarily for my rifle but wanted to be able to put it on anythingand I thought if you can get white light too even better. I bought the remote cable pad switch but I wish I hadn't, you can just push forward on the rear of the light to activate so I'd advise getting the light without and adding the cable later.

Although I just use this for airsoft. I am serious about my equipment working how it should. It is used with a helmet mounted PVS 14. I mainly use it on my rifle with a remote switch but sometimes on a pistol. The IR light is just right. Not too bright but throws a long distance. The IR laser seems a little too bright. It blooms when shined on closer objects but that just might be the nature of all IR lasers.
Overall a great product as usual from Surefire.
