Jeremiah Glosenger's Review of SureFire X400V IRC Infrared Laser 350LM WeaponLight

I purchased this for 2 potential purposes. First, to mount on an AR for night vision shooting and as a white light; however, after taking all the time to get the IR laser in the ballpark of zeroed, I found that you cannot change the batteries without taking it off and thus losing your zero. If you are looking for something to mount on a long gun, stick with the standard IR laser/ illuminators that you don't have to remove in order to change the batteries. Now I'm breaking in an DBAL-A4 for the rifle instead. Second, I thought all was not lost as I would relegate the device to my Glock pistol with a Trijicon RMR. I figured it would still be useful as an IR illuminator for shooting under night vision. I had a custom holster made after many hours of online searches for one that would work. I decided today to shoot with it on during an IDPA match today in the carry optics division. After 50 or so rounds of recoil, it popped off while shooting. When I tighten the mounting screw tighter, it actually causes the polymer frame to warp and slows the slide operation down (you can feel just by trying to rack the slide). If I back it off just enough that the slide runs normally, it eventually loosens under repetitive recoil. I was hoping to shoot the match under NV with it on, but it fell off my gun for the second time (after being re-tightened) and the little tab on the back of the tailcap switch broke off. I also have an X300U-A and like the ease of mounting it on and off my pistol. I suspect it would be more secure and reliable for actual shooting, but I haven't tested it. Now my tailcap switch assembly is broken too. I really wished this would have worked out, but I'm sorely disappointed and have no idea why SureFire chose this mounting system for such an expensive light. #DayRuined

Cons:
