Expert Review
Worth the Investment
When my fitbit charge burnt out, I decided to upgrade.
A friend of mine has the Suunto Traverse so I was somewhat familiar with the watch and when the Alpha came out it was the perfect choice.
All the benefits of the Traverse but target for outdoors like hunting/fishing.
It takes a awhile to get used to how all the functions work and which buttons control what menus but after putting in some time using it you learn.
I've used it hiking to set way points like where i parked and my route.
The recoil activated recorder is a nice feature that I am looking forward to using more.
For daily use, the Alpha is great. Provides step count, syncs with smartphone for push notifications, has sunrise/sunset times as well as info about the Moon (Rise, Set, Phase).
The display is a nice size so that the numbers are easily visible in almost any condition.
The red backlight is a nice feature that differentiates the Alpha from the Traverse and the "flashlight" mode is useful in a pinch.
The battery usually lasts at least several days with moderate use and charges fairly quickly.
The face/body of the watch is a little big so occasionally I will remove it if I need full wrist mobility but most of the time it is not an interference or nuisance.
I've barely scratched the surface of what this watch can do but I am already pretty impressed.
Definitely a quality made "watch" that offers a vast array of useful features.
