MGH's Review of OpticsPlanet Exclusive Swampfox Sentinel 1x16mm Ultra Compact Micro Red Dot Sight

Once upon a time, Holosun was my go-to optic brand of choice. They put out great products at a great price. Once they established themselves as a major player, their prices rose alongside their reputation. Thereby losing their "best bang for buck" moniker.
Along comes Swampfox. The NEXT new kid on the block, making a name for themselves. They are now my go-to optic brand.
I have Kingslayers, Justices, and now this Sentinel. I have my eye on the Arrowhead 1-10 LPVO, IF they'll ever make an FFP version.
The Sentinel is replacing the Sig RomeoZero that came with my P365. The fit is perfect, and looking forward to putting it through the paces.
BUT...I wasn't paying attention when I made the purchase, and got the Auto (vs. manual) brightness version.
Call me a control freak, but I don't like circuitry making decisions for me. With a photography side hustle, even with $4000 tech rich cameras, the ONLY auto feature I use is focus.
As smart as these devices may be, they can't account for EVERY scenario we may find ourselves in.
So far, if I'm in a well lit space, the dot is plenty bright.
But I tested it while in a low-light space, looking into a bright space, and the Auto-Brightness circuitry dimmed the dot too much.
Imagine being inside the low-light interior of a vehicle, and trying to put the dot on a brightly lit attacker outside.
Good luck.
I suppose one could argue that the distance would most likely be short enough to not need a dot.
But, this isn't about whether or not one would NEED a dot. It's about whether or not the dot would be effective.
I'm not confident in the Sentinel's (or ANY auto-brightness optic) ability to provide an effective dot in all the scenarios I might encounter.
Will probably return it for the Manual version.
