DrBubbi's Review of Swampfox Tomahawk 1-8x24mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane (SFP)

I want to be fair, that’s why I have given it 4 stars. I have not zeroed or spent significant time behind this optic. I have only mounted it and I have been moving it around to find the best eye relief. My initial impressions are, it is nicely packaged, it seems well built, has nice positive turrets and has included throw lever! The glass is clear for the price point, the reticle is crisp and clear and can be illuminated very brightly. One ding for lack of an off position between each setting. It seems to be a true 1x after diopter adjustment. Now for the one big downside for me, the eyebox is not optimal at all. I have several other brands of LVPO scopes that range greatly in price point. From a Viridian 1-4x, Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x, Vortex Viper 1-4x and 1-6x, Leupold and up. All of which offer a more forgiving eye box. As I said earlier, I want to be fair, I do realize a Leupold, Steiner, or Nightforce is not an apples to apples comparison. I am going to take this scope out and spend some extensive time behind the glass and do a box test, and speed drills on 1x to give it a fair comparison to other brands closer to same price point. If it test well, then I would put it in the category of a Vortex Strike Eagle mainly because of the better price point, but even if it test well, it does not compare to the Viper based mostly on the eye box. I sincerely hope my rating will go to 5 stars instead of going down to 3. I want so much to love this optic because of the reticle. Right now, I personally would not use this as a SHTF or Defense optic unless I were on a tighter budget, if you want a reasonably priced optic with a great reticle, this may be your huckleberry. It pains me, but I have to say that I’m just not sure yet. I wanted so much to say this was a great Optic and I still might.
Pros:
  • Reasonable Price, Great Reticle
Cons:
  • Unusually tight eyebox even on the lower settings
Best Used for:
  • Not sure yet, maybe range or plinki
  • After some use, maybe range or plinking
Would Recommend: Yes
