cchgn's Review of Tasco 10-40x50 Target / Varmint Rifle Scope

I've had this scope for about 15 years and it still works great. I'm not one to "keep up with the Jones" and have to have the latest greatest. I mean, what makes a good scope? IS it waterproof, fog proof, and shockproof? Yes! Parallax is 25 yds to infinity (meaning that past 25 yds, you don't have to even think about it). I made a grid target of 1" squares and put it out at 100 yards. This scope has 1/8" MOA (MOA is 1" at 100 yds, so 8 clicks move the reticle 1" at 100 yds). A good scope will track accurately, meaning each click moves the reticle immediately, without hesitation. This one does and then tracks back. Then I put the target at 50 yards, so that's 16 clicks to MOA and it does that and back. THAT is a good scope. Also, the objective lens ring has marks stamped on it designating 25 yds, 50 yds, 100yds 200 yds, and 300 yds (there are more marks, in between those, but those numbers I named are stamped on the ring) and then the infinity symbol. It focuses perfectly on each of those yardages. That's a good scope. I bore-sighted the scope at 25 yds.- that's my zero. The turrets have 3 small set screws and can be removed with a very small Allen wrench (They send one with it if you buy it new, but I bought it used so I didn't have that Allen wrench and couldn't find it either. I mean, I bought a full set of standards and metrics and they're not ANY of those, so you know what I did? I bought some different set screws, that I had an Allen wrench for, then drilled those out and put in the new set screws. Problem solved) and set them to zero. Now, I can go out and shoot all day long, adding dope for different distances and then dial it back to zero, and it's zeroed for 100 yds. Folks, this is as good as any scope gets, at ANY price. People pay FAR more than this and those scopes won't do everything this one does. Lastly, other reviews here have said that it gets unable to focus at the 40 power, well, to be honest, I haven't been anywhere where I needed the 40 power. In the 15 years I've had this scope, I haven't had to go past 25 power, so I wouldn't pass this score up for that little non-issue.
Pros:
  • the price is amazing for what you get
Cons:
  • I just don't see any
Best Used for:
  • Anything you want to do.
