Legacy Reviewer's Review of Tasco 6-24x42 Target / Varmint Rifle Scope VAR624X42M Rifle scope

Worth saying again -- GREAT scope for the price. Pleasantly surprised with quality and usability. Understandable why it is one of OP's best picks. This was my first Tasco scope and, if this one is indicative of the quality of Tasco's other scopes, it will not be my last. Defiantly worth the money. Great recommendation Optics Planet, thanks!
Pros: Live in AZ & True Mil-Dot reticle makes easy work of range estimation, which is critical with shots over 300yds. Bought the scope for my daughters Savage .243. First mounted & sighted it in on my 30-06 to test how well it would hold zero with the heavier recoil. I must say, I was impressed. Shot 165gr, 180gr, and heavy load 220gr bullets and the scope did not budge... at all! Scope placed consistent 1/2" groups at 100yds and 3" groups at 300yds (suspect capable of better but my shooting was not). At distance, was able to ring the 400yd gong (11"x18") 7 of 7 times, the 500yd gong (11"x18") 6 of 7 times (pulled last shot right) and even the 600yrd a couple (wasn't far off on the three I missed again my skill level not the scope). FYI... better than I was doing with my Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x50.
Cons: Evaluated in context to the price, I honestly found nothing negative about the product. Though the scope was a bit fuzzy on max power, it was still clear enough to see/shoot and it would be unfair to compare its clarity to a $1,000 scope (apples and oranges). If this were a Leopold Mark IV, I would list glass (on highest setting) as a Con. If I were paying $1,400 for a scope I would expect PERFECT glass. Given that the Tasco 6-24X42 costs less than $100, however... the glass is very good for the price.
