Rod's Review of Timney Triggers Remington 700 Trigger w/ Safety

I bought a Remington 700 VTR in .223 caliber. It shot pretty good my first trip to the range. But I knew it would shoot better, and thought it was being held back by the X-Mark Pro trigger. I ordered the Timney #510 trigger and installed it in the 700 VTR. Installation was pretty easy. I went on line and watched a video of how it is done. It took me about 5 minutes. Take the barreled action out of the stock, tap out the front pin from left to right, then tap the rear pin from right to left but leave it in the receiver so it captures the bolt release lever and spring. Remove the factory trigger, drop in the Timney, tap both pins back in to hold the assembly in place, adjust the bolt release arm so it doesn't jam the release lever, adjust the pull weight to your liking, then bolt the barreled action back in the stock. Put the mag well back in correctly, like I didn't do, and it all bolts right together. I put the mag well in upside down the first try. The Timney came adjusted at 3 lbs, but I wanted it a little lighter since this is a target rifle. A little more than 1/2 turn on the pull weight screw set it a 2 1/4 lbs, just where I wanted it. I didn't touch the overtravel or engagement screws. I took it to the range and shooting Hornady V-Max, 55 grain ballistic tip Varmint Express ammo it puts 5 rounds in 1 ragged hole at 100 yds. Nothing like a good, crisp, light trigger to help with accuracy. I highly recommend thin Timney trigger for use in the Remington 700.

I have a Remington model 7 in .243 that I installed in a Bell & Carlson stock. It also has the X-Mark Pro trigger. I have tried to adjust that trigger with the small screw in the trigger shoe, but to no avail. No matter how I turn the screw the pull weight stays at 4 lbs, never getting lighter or heavier. And it has some crunchy creep that I don't like. I will soon replace that trigger with the Timney #521 trigger.

I also have my original Remington 700 BDL in 30/06 that I bought in 1969. I replaced the springs in that factory trigger a year ago, but think it's time for a Timney upgrade. Might try the Timney #510THN (thin trigger shoe) model in that 30/06 deer rifle.

Overall I'm really happy with the quality of this trigger. It does just what they say it will. It's getting harder and harder to find products that will do that anymore.
